On Friday, my sweet little boy hit the half way mark on his first trip around the sun. He's now six months old. As Gretchen Ruben says, "the days are long but the years are short." Ain't that the truth.
We celebrated with a day of milestones: a first ride on a swing and a first taste of squash (from our 2012 garden, of course). The weather was warm and sunny and beautifully spring-like. The kids and I spent the morning exploring a new-to-us playground, which turned out to be one of the coolest playgrounds I've ever been to. The park is huge with rivers running here, there, through, and around the separate play areas. We've heard that this is the place to be with sandals and bathing suits in the summer. We'll be back!
And the boy absolutely loves the swings!
At dinner-time we sang Happy Half Birthday to you, and the girl was quite happy for the opportunity to blow out a candle in her brother's honor. I baked an unsalted portion of butternut squash alongside ours, and mixed it into a watery mash with some breast milk. As to be expected, he barely ingested any, but he was very, very eager to get it in his mouth! He's been staring, grabbing and eagerly watching us eat for months now, and I do believe my little Tree is ready to do a bit experimenting with new flavors. At this age it's about just that - experimenting and playing. We'll let him play, mash and make a mess with new colors and flavors, and we'll follow his lead about how much food actually gets eaten.
Just good ol' fun with food.
And just look at those rolls of baby grease (aka baby fat)! It makes a breastfeeding Mama proud.
Happy Saturday friends! Hope you're having a lovely weekend.
